CalPERS is dedicated to providing health care to help manage employee illness and believes worksite wellness programs are an essential strategy to benefits employees and employers. Recently, CalPERS joined Santa Cruz County, the California Association of Physicians Groups, Abbot Laboratories, the Institute of Health and Productivity Management and the Palo Alto Medical Foundation in an innovative partnership outside of a structured health plan that led to a successful, progressive worksite wellness program called “Cruzin’ to Health: Changes That Last a Lifetime.“

Employees participating in worksite wellness programs have been encouraged to live healthier lifestyles and have shown reductions in the predicted onset of illnesses like heart disease, diabetes and stroke, leading to a happier, more productive workplace and workforce. Studies show that over time, every dollar spent on worksite wellness nets up to $6 in health care savings and increased productivity.
