The 2011 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report is available to download. This chart from page 153 of the report illustrates average benefit payments by fiscal year and years of service. The chart also shows average final compensation on which average benefit payment is calculated. As years of service increase, average benefit payment and average final compensation also increase. The data in this table is the most recent available. As of June 30, 2011, CalPERS has 536,234 retirees and beneficiaries with an average benefit payment of $2,332 per month. About 30,000 CalPERS members enter retirement each year.
