Boynton Presents at 8th Annual American Health Care Forum
December 6, 2011

Ann Boynton, Deputy Executive Officer for CalPERS Benefit Programs, Policy and Planning presented information on delivering high-quality, cost-effective health care at the 8th Annual American Health Care Congress and Exhibition (AHCC) on December 5th. Boynton spoke about a new program, piloted by CalPERS, in which Blue Shield, Catholic Healthcare West and Hill Physicians collaborated to develop and implement an integrative health care delivery program. The pilot project was successful and included more than 42,000 CalPERS members, nearly 700 primary care physicians, and specialists at more than 300 practice locations.

The AHCC Exhibition is dedicated to bringing the health care community together to discuss strategies to decrease the cost of care, drive delivery innovation, develop aligned incentives, redesign effective operations, and leverage health care IT.

A programming error caused an incorrect health premium calculation for some employees or retirees. It has been corrected so that the error will not occur again. CalPERS will be issuing refund checks, which we anticipate will go out next week. CalPERS regrets that the error occurred and apologizes to those affected.

High quality health care! I am discussed with your high quality/cost effective bull. After ruining my back for the state and no say in the disposion of my benefits, I am getting tired of getting ripped off by the State, Pers, and Calpers. I received a nice surprise of a reduced income of $179. of my already punny settlement. Where did it go, Health Care, you know the one that the I can't use due to the the overly high deductible and co-payments. Costing 20% +/- of my total income + deductible + copayments. That's the way the State takes care of us? Without even letting us know it's coming. Slap me again why don't you.

CalPERS has a major problem! The last checks and direct deposit vouchers they have generated have deducted the WHOLE medical insurance premium from the retiree checks/direct deposits, without crediting the amount that the retiree's agency or city is paying. I retired from Martinez PD and that is what they did to me and all the other officers who retired. We contacted the city and were assured they city paid their share of the medical premium for us, so CalPERS gets the money from the city, and then takes it again from us. CalPERS has been aware of the problem for about a month and still has not fixed it! They are placing a lot of retirees in economic jeopardy! CalPERS needs to get their act straightened out before someone loses their house because the can no longer afford the monthly payment with their retirement check being so much less.
