CBO Says Health Law Repeal Would Deepen Federal Deficit

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) issued a report that predicts a repeal of health care reforms under the new the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) would increase the federal deficit by $230 billion over the next decade and leave more than 32 million Americans uninsured.

The CBO sent its 10-page report to The House of Representatives and House Speaker John Boehner Thursday, January 6.

CalPERS is a supporter of health care reform with a focus on three essential priorities, including:

CalPERS Chief Executive Officer, Anne Stausboll, recently sent a letter to U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius affirming CalPERS success in implementing aspects of national health care reform measures. In her letter, Stausboll told Sebelius that CalPERS has supported the reforms under PPACA from its inception and believes the measures will dramatically shape the future of health care in the nation. Stausboll said some of CalPERS implementation successes included:

Stausboll also told Sebelius that the Affordable Care Act included much-needed provisions that helped CalPERS early retirees with relief for the non-Medicare medical and pharmaceutical costs.
