CalPERS Reaffirms Commitment to Same-Sex Benefits

CalPERS issued the following statement in response to a story from The Sacramento Bee about CalPERS Long-Term Care Program and an ongoing federal lawsuit regarding benefits under federal law for same-sex domestic partners.
“CalPERS has a proud history of, and commitment to, providing retirement and health care benefits to all our members and their families, including registered domestic partners,” said Robert Udall Glazier, Deputy Executive Officer. “Under current federal law, our hands are tied and it prohibits us from providing long-term care coverage to same-sex domestic partners without jeopardizing the Program's tax status for all our members.”
