Myth: If nothing occurs in Washington this year, it won’t really matter because CalPERS already operates its own system of health benefits.

Fact:
The cost of inaction is tremendous. CalPERS priority for health care reform is to ensure that health care is affordable for all Americans, as the cost of treating uninsured gets built into members’ rates. Our priorities also include increasing the value of health care, improving quality, and lowering the cost of prescription drugs. Health care reform is critical to the State and local contracting employers who are struggling with cuts to their revenues.
